In celebration of the 15th Anniversary of ‘The Weight is a Gift’ we’re excited to share this recently discovered vintage broadcast of a show from ‘The Weight Is A Gift’ tour.
Recorded in February of 2006 at Los Angeles’ Henry Fonda Theater, here’s the original broadcast along with some newly uncovered (and unaired footage!), in all its non-widescreen glory. (Please note, there are some cuts in the footage due to the commercial breaks that it originally aired with).
Join the band on Friday, December 18 at 10pm UK / 5pm EST / 2pm PST for a “Never Not Together” Tim’s Twitter Listening Party! twitter/LlSTENlNG_PARTY
if you’ve never participated in one of these, you might love it. everyone listens to the whole album at the same time while the band tweets out thoughts and stories and photos. a really cool way to hang out together apart!
The digital, deluxe version of “Never Not Together” is out today! It includes three new songs, an orchestral version of “Looking for You” and acoustic, Spanish and French versions of “So Much Love.” Stream or download the album here
We’re excited to announce the release of the “Just Wait” music film. Directed by Mark Pellington, the piece is interspersed with philosophical meditations written by Peter Caws and read by him and Matthew.
It is an optimistic, philosophical film, hinting at themes of endurance and memory, patience and perspective.
Also, we’re announcing the release of a digital, deluxe version of “Never Not Together” on November 13th. It includes three brand new songs, an orchestral version of “Looking For You” and acoustic, Spanish and French versions of “So Much Love.” You can pre-save the album today and listen to the new song “Stories Going ‘Round” here.
When asked to write a song for a recent benefit album I chose to write about the election because I think it’s such a crucial moment in our lives. “When History Comes” is available now on all digital platforms!
It’s with gratitude and happiness that we announce the winner of the ‘So Much Love’ fan video contest – teenager Theo Erz from Portland, OR made a lovely, upbeat pandemic-influenced homage to his home town’s vibrant spirit. Thanks to Theo, thanks to Fender for providing the prize Player Telecaster, and thanks to all who entered the contest! Watch it here
Due to the Coronavirus situation in France that forbid all closed events above 1000 people, we decided to maintain Nada Surf concert in Paris on Wednesday, March 11th.
In order to avoid a cancelation or report, the band decided to do two identical shows on the same night : one at 7.00pm and one at 9.15pm.
A first half of the audience will be able to get in for the first show at 7.00pm and the other half for the 9.15pm show.
Those are the timings when the band will get on stage, doors opening for the 7.00pm show will be at 6.00pm and at 8.45pm for the 9.15pm show.
We ask people that are able to be there early to come for the first show so we can guarantee access to the shows for everyone.
Thank you all for your understanding.
And today we’re announcing a fan video contest for the track.
“I’ve described this song so many different ways. It’s about good will between people, it’s about our ability to find positivity even while in difficult circumstances, about seeing beauty everywhere by working to reframe our judgement. We’re good at feeling good and we’re good at feeling bad and we can spend a lifetime navigating that. All this is why it would be so exciting for us to see your interpretation of the song!”
The band will select one entry as the winning video and promote that video via their socials and web site. In addition, the winner will receive a Fender Player Telecasterfrom Fender Guitars and a selection of merchandise and vinyl from Nada Surf. Fans and video makers interested in submitting their work must post their work on YouTube on or before April 30th with the hashtag #SoMuchLove.
“I’ve always believed that how someone hears a song is just as valid as what the writer was feeling when they wrote it. If it makes you want to make something, please do, we’d be thrilled!”
‘Never Not Together’ feels like an old friend open to new tricks. Familiar bittersweet flavours are sensitively tweaked but Nada Surf’s cathartic heartbursts remains in perfect harmony.” MOJO – 4 stars ★★★★
“What sets Nada Surf apart is the unguarded quality of singer-guitarist Matthew Caws’ songwriting, which dwells on love, friendship, and the desire for connection with a warmth and honesty that go perfectly with his melodies, steeped in the careful prettiness of the Go-Betweens and the no-frills formal consistency of Spoon.” Rolling Stone
“Majestic… From the moment the heartwarming jangle of ‘So Much Love’ starts this record off, these nine iridescent anthems serve to offer at least partial escape from the modern world. Matthew Caws’ deeply philosophical and moving lyrics seem to capture the very essence of life and humanity.” Record Collector – 4 stars ★★★★

hello friends, we have a new song to share. it’s different in its intent from anything else we’ve done and i’d like to tell you a little about it: when I read last year about the inhumane and needless separation of families at the border, i was shocked, it was almost too awful to think about. i called my representatives and left messages, but i wished there was something more i could do. a thought occurred to me: what if I could speak directly to congress through a song? i don’t write political songs often — they’re hard to pull off and can feel futile — and the idea of a senator or congressperson actually hearing it was a total moonshot, but once i had the idea i thought it was worth trying. in 1999, we put together a cd called “North 6th Street” to sell on tour. it was named after the street in brooklyn where we first got together. it has our first singles, some 8-track demos we made in our practice space, some alternate versions, french versions, a couple of unreleased songs and a cover. it has sold out and been re-pressed a few times over the years, but today, for its 20th birthday, we’re finally releasing it digitally!
